Development Consultation event - 7th May

The Preferred Growth Strategy consultation feedback is now available on the SDDC website on the following link:

www.ldf.consultations.south-derbys.gov.uk.

There were many valuable comments submitted from Church Gresley residents, particularly in relation to the proposed development near Thorpe Downs Estate and Church Street.

We have now received details of a consultation event at the St George & Mary’s Community Rooms, Church Street to be held on Tuesday May 7th between 4.30 and 7.30pm.  We would recommend that all of those who had comments attend this meeting as it relates to a proposed development.

If you are unable to attend the event, the company handling the event (Planning Prospects) can be contacted on 01905 828303 or email info@planningprospects.co.uk

Brunel Way Cycle path surface now completed.

After much chasing the missing section of cycleway on Brunel Way in Castleton Park has now been properly surfaced.

The markings still need to be added with sign-age as necessary.  The shared use cycleway traverses the whole of the estate and provides a safe link through, provided that all users respect each other.

Update on Issues around the ward

Dog Fouling

Residents rightfully took this up with us, South Derbyshire District Council and noticeably on social media sites.  It is always our aim to deal with issues quickly and respond to residents as soon as possible.  The following actions were implemented:

  • The clean team removed the mess.
  • Extra warden presence in certain areas was requested
  • Areas were patrolled and warnings were given when appropriate
  • Information & warning leaflets were dropped in key areas.
  • More warning signs were placed in key areas.
  • More bins have been provided to lessen the excuse for littering and fouling.

Contrary to any other information received this work has been implemented by the wardens from SDDC and pursued by the Church Gresley ward councillors.

We continue to monitor the situation and an improvement has been noticed.  However, we need to ensure that the action has a sustainable effect to stop it re-occurring.  We have been looking into how other councils deal with the issue and are going to work closer with the wardens to understand their work and how it affects our ward.

Litter

We have requested a review of bin provision around the Castle Road area and requested a clean up around Spring Street.  There is now a new bin in this area as can be seen in the previous post.

If you have a problem with littering and/or dog fouling in your area, please let us know.

We have been made aware at our most recent surgery of issues surrounding the recycling centre and the former Memorial Club on York Road.  We are currently working with the council to ensure that these issues are resolved.  This will include some new signing.

Fly tipping far worse than the above has been noticed at the Recycling centre but this is a typical event.
If you see fly-tipping occur you can have an impact.  There are some key tips on the SDDC website to ensure that the maximum information can be gained in safety:

http://www.south-derbys.gov.uk/environment/waste_and_recycling/flytipped_waste/fly_tipping_enforcement/default.asp

The key points are not to put yourself at risk and not to disturb any evidence.  The more information that can be given to the council will lead to an increased chance of a prosecution.  The number to call is 01283 595795.

Issues around the lower lagoon on Castleton Park

We are also pursuing actions relating to issues reported around the settlement lagoon nature area of Castleton Park.  The pictures below show some littering and damage to the footbridge.  It is vital to ensure that this does not increase.  Several action plans are currently in place and more updates will follow.

Feedback on recent issues

At one of our recent surgeries a resident reported a number of issues around the lower part of the village including damaged barriers on Spring Street and the overgrown nature of the access to the recreation area behind Station Street.  We had also requested some more bins in the Spring Street area prior to the surgery.

Following the surgery we took these issues up with the council and are pleased to show the below pictures which show what can be achieved from residents feedback:

New barriers and bin on Spring Street - some further training still required for the bin.

Access to Station Street recreation ground tidied up.

Recent Committee activity - Housing and Community Services

One of the more significant committee meetings was the recent Housing and Community Services Meeting on  18th April.  The key item on the agenda was the report on the decision to start building social housing again in order to address the shortfall.

The report from the Burton Mail is below - the report was voted through unanimously:

Weekly Update - 1st April

Hope everybody enjoyed the Easter Weekend.  I can't ever remember snow over Easter Weekend but at least we've seen some blue sky too!

Thankfully the weather held up ok for leafleting activities.

Whilst there are no main committee meetings in council this week, we would like to draw your attention to the following sport based activities being offered by the council for young people mainly aged 8-16.  There are sessions at Maurice Lea Park and also at Castle Gresley.  Hopefully the weather will be ok and if not, one of the sessions is indoors at Green Bank!  Looks like great fun.
